It’s Cuter to have a Tutor

Righto guys. I am INSPIRED. I am ITCHING. I am SO READY to chat. Let’s get into it.

It’s been a month of head-down-bum-up hard work buuuut, I have made it! And I absolutely adore the month of June. I hope you love it too. It’s usually when I have some time off planned. It’s just become cold enough to morph into my ugg-wearing self; we’re starting to light the fire at dusk; hot cups of morning coffee warm my cold winter hands during slow morning strolls around the neighbourhood; and I can trade those yummy summer ice creams for comforting warm winter pies (I know we call them tarts/cakes/slices in Aus but doesn’t pie just sound so much cosier? Like hello apple pie, yummm).

I’m really excited to enjoy this winter season, and to reap the benefits of my hard work lately. But I can confidently say that I would be a shell of a human if I hadn’t kept up with my commitments and daily habits during the busyness of the last few months… which is what I’d love to talk about today: my blessed, precious and poor, poor tutors. They have had to put up with me being rundown, sick, cranky, tired and just unmotivated. But they are the reason that I’ve been able to achieve some really important and special things recently:

MY GYM ROUTINE

My small group fitness classes and my wonderful trainer, Tom, is the only reason I kept exercising last month. Sometimes I just need to turn up to the gym at a specific time and have someone to tell me what to do, even as a personal trainer myself! If I had to plan my own sessions last month, there is no way that I would have crammed even half as many exercises into the sessions (if I even bothered to show up). Having the accountability of a tutor (PT) has kept me exercising.

MY PIANO EXAM

I had my first piano exam last month. I was sooo excited on the morning of. I made my way to the AMEB studios in Hawthorn, coffee in hand, and I sat in the waiting room next to a cute 5-year old Chinese girl who was probably waiting to sit her 5th grade piano exam- one for each year of her existence. I, on the other hand, was waiting to sit my preliminary exam. You heard that right :))) I can’t help but joke about this, but yes, I signed up for extracurricular piano lessons last year and I have been preparing for my prelim exam. In the past month, however, I lost all steam and told my piano teacher that I would need a break from lessons after the exam came. I was tired. But my piano teacher kept me accountable until the exam, and even though I hardly practiced in my own time, I turned up to the lessons out of respect to my teacher and consequently, fumbled my way through the scary 9 minute exam.

The reason that this has been on my mind is because I was chatting to my housemate tonight who works as a fabulous tutor in the romantic language of French, and the even more romantic language of maths. It got me thinking; having a tutor is SO beneficial. It is absolutely a privilege, and it is not accessible to everyone for a myriad of reasons, but if a tutor is available to you, then my personal recommendation is DO IT! I wouldn’t have trained this month and I wouldn’t have made it to my piano exam without tutors.

Whether it’s learning a new language or useful skill, developing a useLESS skill (like maths.. umm just use a calculator like fr), exercising, or learning to drive manual (definitely get a tutor, for the love of pedestrians), then getting a tutor is a wise, honourable and rewarding idea.

Intentionality is rewarded.

To end, I’d like to proudly announce that I received an A+ on my prelim piano exam. Round of applause for the funny almost-30-year-old who is roleplaying as a preppy! We almost thought she was serious about sitting a preliminary exam!

Oh wait, she is serious...

It’s been so nice to chat to you all. You truly feel like friends, because if we’ve found each other in this little creative corner of the internet then we likely have many common interests. Fitness, performing arts, and possibly a whole lot more. I love banking up my favourite topics (and sometimes unspoken-topics that I’ve been waiting to share with people who will relate!), to share with you. Write me back if you like. I’d love to hear what you have to say. Until next time!

Xx
