What’s in my bag?! Part 3

Both Carolyn and Carli have written a ‘What’s In My Bag?’ blog, so I thought it was only fair that I confess the mess that I carry around on my person too. As a freelancer, a hobby-hopper and a generally creative person, I have a lot of random but necessary items in my bag(s)! Oftentimes, I carry 3 separate bags: one for my personal items, one for my exercise-related items, and one for my music-related items. Here is a list of items that you’ll usually find in my THREE bags!

HANDBAG (personals):

  • 1L drink bottle

  • A book

  • Business cards

  • Guitar picks (these come in handy, even as trolley ‘coins’ at Woolies!)

  • Earplugs (as a musician, you never know when a rehearsal or gig is going to turn LOUD)

  • Handkerchief, lip balm, sunnies (staples)

  • AirPods

  • Hand moisturiser (for after the gym- but never before the gym or before playing guitar)

  • Safety pins (for clothes or sneaky bits of spinach, iykyk)

  • Gold coin purse

EXERCISE BAG (dance, gym):

  • Exercise band (for foot warmups: Bloch exercise band)

  • Foot roller, spiky rubber ball

  • Spare dance shoes, ouch pouches & ribbon sewing kit

  • Warm up booties

  • Hair supplies - hairspray, fine comb, French pins

  • Natural deodorant (Noosa Basics)

  • Skipping rope (sized to my height)

  • High protein snack (always Aussie beef jerky, unprocessed and Aussie owned)

  • Gym chalk & grips

GUITAR CASE (music):

  • Guitar (generally my guitar is in my guitar case- if it’s not, I’d be concerned)

  • iPad (for chord charts, lyrics)

  • Nail clippers, nail file

  • My physical CDs

  • Pen & paper (for songwriting ideas)

  • Display folder (for sheet music)

  • Noise cancelling headphones (my headphones)

  • Cash (for buskers, or for group coffee orders in a songwriting session etc., legitimately! This has been helpful so many times!)

These items have proved helpful time and time again. Whether I stumble upon a rehearsal and need ear protection, or quickly have to play guitar and need to trim my nails. You never know, a cheeky can of hairspray could in fact save your life ;)

See you next month <3
